| Assembly Instructions |
| Assembling our all wood RTA cabinetry is
an easy task. With just a few tools (mainly a screwdriver) &
a little patience you'll be a pro in no time. Usually the first
cabinet will go slow as you're figuring out the process. The
next one will go quite a bit faster & you may not even need
directions by the third one. Once you get the hang of things,
the average time to assemble a standard wall cabinet is about
10 minutes. A base cabinet also has a drawer to put together
which will increase the average assembly time to around 15 to
20 minutes. Assembly times will vary from person to person but
an average size kitchen should be assembled in a day or less.
Not a bad investment when you consider the cost savings. |
| Getting Started |
First you will need an adequate work space.
A workbench is best, but even the kitchen table can be used
if you're in a pinch. You will want to cover the bench or table
with something soft. A layer of foam, a towel, or even a blanket
or quilt will work just fine. You'll be laying the face of the
door and front of the cabinet face down on the workbench and
you certainly don't want to scratch the fine furniture quality
finish.
Next collect a few basic tools. A few various size hand screwdrivers
are your main needs. To save time, a small cordless screwdriver
will work great for installing brackets & drawer guides.
A small rubber mallet can be handy for tapping things in place.
Lightly tap, never force. A small pair of needle nose pliers
can be handy for holding small screws in place while getting
them started. A small wood block with a piece of medium grit
sandpaper can come in handy if you run into a tight fit. Simply
lightly taper the edges of the part you're trying to insert
with the sanding block. (Optional Step)
If you want to really build a heavy duty cabinet, consider having
a small bottle of yellow wood glue handy. Trial fit the cabinet
sides into the face frame and get them fitting easily. Then
add a small bead of yellow glue down into the dadoes of the
face frame. Next insert the sides & lock them into place.
Use a dab of glue on any joints you can. Once the cabinet is
fully assembled, carefully set it aside for a few hours so the
glue can fully cure. You'll have a super strong box that will
rival any construction method. The glue works well for drawer
box joints as well. Have a couple of wet towels accessible as
you may find glue oozing out around the edges. Wipe the excess
glue off at once. The glue will clean up easily while its' wet,
so don't let it dry. |
